"Bomb in the hallway"... Residents Evacuate in Panic
Police Investigation Reveals Claim: "I am Also a Jeonse Fraud Victim"
A man who wrote that he had installed an explosive device in the hallway of an officetel belonging to a victim of a jeonse fraud was arrested.
The Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced on the 21st that they have apprehended Mr. A on charges of property damage and are investigating him.
Mr. A is suspected of writing a post claiming that he installed a bomb in a hallway of a 14-story officetel located in Dohwa-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, around 4 p.m. that day.
At the time, graffiti such as "House of the jeonse fraud victim," "I will be here forever," and "Triggered bomb installed, do not touch" were reportedly written on the hallway walls.
After receiving a report from residents, the police dispatched a special task force to inspect the building but did not find any objects suspected to be explosives. However, this incident caused about 50 officetel residents to evacuate temporarily.
The officetel is understood to be owned by a man in his 60s, a construction businessman who was arrested and indicted on charges of embezzling hundreds of billions of won in jeonse deposits in the Michuhol-gu area.
Mr. A claims during the police investigation that he is also a victim of the jeonse fraud. However, it is reported that he is currently not residing in the officetel.
A police official stated, "We are investigating the tools used in the crime and the specific motive behind it with Mr. A," and added, "We also plan to investigate what connection Mr. A has with the building."
