Allegations of Kim Geon-hee's Interference in Nomination: "Han Dong-hoon Representative Is No Different from an Accomplice"
The Democratic Party of Korea stated that "Representative Han Dong-hoon is no different from an accomplice" in relation to reports that former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun pressured the nomination management committee during the April 10 general election, threatening to expose the 'Kim Geon-hee First Lady nomination interference allegations.'
Kang Yoo-jung, the party's floor spokesperson, said in a written briefing, "Did the People Power Party know about the worst-ever state power abuse involving the First Lady's nomination interference and yet cover it up?"
The previous day, a media outlet reported, citing an anonymous former People Power Party nomination committee member, that former lawmaker Kim Young-sun demanded a nomination by bringing up the First Lady Kim's issue ahead of the general election and pressured the committee by threatening to expose the allegations if his demand was not met.
Spokesperson Kang criticized, "Although they claimed to have a system-based nomination, in reality, they seemed busy managing the First Lady Kim's 'pick' nomination," adding, "The report implies that Representative Han is a thread in the suspicion of the First Lady Kim's nomination interference."
Kang further stated, "If the First Lady Kim's nomination interference is true, it is a clear abuse of state power and subject to investigation," and added, "Accepting the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act' to clear all suspicions and focus solely on the people is the only solution."
