President Yoon Suk-yeol met with local Korean residents in Prague, Czech Republic, on the 20th (local time) and said, "If cooperation between Korea and the Czech Republic expands, our Korean community will also have greater opportunities for growth."
On the same day, President Yoon held a dinner meeting with the Korean community at a hotel in downtown Prague and said, "The government will provide more systematic support so that our compatriots can demonstrate greater capabilities and operate without inconvenience in the local society." First Lady Kim Keon-hee also attended the meeting.
President Yoon emphasized, "In July, Team Korea was selected as the preferred negotiator for the Dukovany nuclear power plant construction project, one of the largest national projects in Czech history. South Korea, which introduced the European-type nuclear power plant in 1982, has now developed into a country that exports nuclear power plants to Europe."
He continued, "This serves as a foothold to rebuild the domestic nuclear power ecosystem and actively enter the global nuclear power market worth over 1,000 trillion won. The government and I will do our best until the final contract with the Czech Republic is successfully concluded."
President Yoon said, "Yesterday and today, I met with high-ranking officials including the Czech president, prime minister, and the speakers of the National Council and Chamber of Deputies, and we agreed to dramatically develop the strategic partnership between the two countries based on cooperation in the nuclear power sector." He added, "In particular, we will greatly expand the horizon of cooperation between the two countries to various fields including advanced industries, science and technology, energy, and infrastructure."
He also added, "As South Korea contributes to global freedom, peace, and prosperity as a pivotal global nation and expands its diplomatic horizons and economic territory, I ask our compatriots to also lend their support."
Kim Myung-hee, president of the Czech Korean Association, welcomed the president by saying, "The president's visit to Prague is a great honor for our Korean community in the Czech Republic and brings deep pride to all of us."
President Kim explained, "This visit by the president will be an important opportunity to further develop economic, social, and cultural cooperation between the two countries. South Korea being selected as the preferred negotiator for the new Dukovany nuclear power plant project is a significant achievement in economic cooperation between the two countries."
About 80 members of the Korean community attended the meeting. On the government side, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Duk-geun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo, and Director of the National Security Office Shin Won-sik were present.
President Yoon concluded his official four-day, two-night visit to the Czech Republic with this meeting. He is scheduled to return to Korea on the 21st.
