Lee Denies Charges, "It's Not Just Today"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, said on the 20th that the prosecution's request for a 2-year prison sentence for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is on trial for violating the Public Official Election Act, "appears to be a routine sentencing request, and a routine outcome is expected."
On the same day, Han told reporters at the National Assembly, "The Democratic Party will likely hold another exaggerated emergency briefing to shield themselves, but this is a routine criminal trial regarding the intentional lies made during the election process." This seems to imply that Lee, as the leader of the main opposition party, will be subject to legal judgment through judicial procedures like any other election offender, without political considerations.
Regarding Lee's denial of the charges when he appeared in court that day, Han pointed out, "It's not just today."
On the progress of the ruling and opposition parties' parliamentary consultation body, Han said, "I will do my best. I think even me mentioning the interim situation might actually hinder the launch of the consultation body," adding, "I will quietly do my part. The medical community probably has various thoughts as well."
