On the 20th, the 'Unam Complex Cultural and Sports Center,' Gwangju's only living culture and education complex space that adds educational functions such as the Teacher Growth Maru to the existing cultural, sports, and care functions, opened its doors.
About 200 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Kang Ki-jung, City Superintendent of Education Lee Jeong-seon, Buk-gu District Mayor Moon In, City Council Chairperson Shin Su-jeong, city council members, National Assembly member Jeon Jin-sook, and local residents.
The Unam Complex Cultural and Sports Center is a community living social infrastructure facility with a total floor area of 4,170㎡, built on the vacant land of Gyeongyang Elementary School in Unam-dong, Buk-gu, with a total project cost of 13.3 billion KRW, spanning from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor above ground.
The interior spaces are arranged as follows: the 1st floor houses the 'Together Care Center' for after-school child care services; the 2nd floor features a 'Multipurpose Gymnasium' for recreational sports and event hosting; and the 3rd floor is designed as a 'Living Culture Center' supporting citizens' autonomous cultural activities.
Notably, unlike other complex cultural facilities, a 'Teacher Support Center' has been established to enhance teachers' instructional abilities, which is accessible to both residents and students.
Mayor Kang Ki-jung of Gwangju stated, "The Unam Complex Cultural and Sports Center is especially meaningful as a precious space created collaboratively by the Office of Education, Gwangju City, autonomous districts, and the government. This place encompasses all the functions most needed by residents, including culture, sports, care, and education, and will serve as a community hub that provides comprehensive care services and strengthens the foundation of Gwangju education."
