Positive Results from Citizen Online Survey
More Than Half Favor Project Appropriateness
More than 70% of citizens are aware of the "Yeosu Bay Renaissance Comprehensive Development Plan," which Jeong Gi-myeong, the mayor of Yeosu City in the 8th term, is prioritizing, and more than half of them positively evaluate the appropriateness of the project.
Yeosu City announced on the 20th that it conducted an online survey from the 6th to the 11th over six days targeting 6,650 male and female citizen panelists from the city's website citizen communication plaza to gather citizens' awareness and opinions on the "Yeosu Bay Renaissance Comprehensive Development Plan."
The survey consisted of a total of 11 questions, including "Awareness of Yeosu Bay Renaissance," "Appropriateness of the five bay promotion tasks," "Improvement of residential conditions," and "Priority tasks for tourism industry development," with 1,045 panelists responding.
In the survey on citizens' awareness of Yeosu Bay Renaissance, 42% answered "have heard of it," which was the highest, and when combined with those who answered "know well (20%)" and "know very well" (11%), 73% of respondents were aware of the Yeosu Bay Renaissance Comprehensive Development Plan.
On the other hand, only 27% of respondents answered "do not know well" or "do not know at all."
In particular, regarding the question on the "appropriateness of the five bay-specific implementation tasks," 39% answered "yes," the highest, and 78% of respondents positively evaluated it, including "strongly agree" (21%) and "somewhat agree" (18%).
Also, the core goal of Yeosu Bay Renaissance was most frequently identified as "tourism resource development" at 25%, followed by "economic and industrial development" (20%), "climate and environmental protection" (18%), "improvement of residential conditions" (15%), "job creation" (14%), and "expansion of cultural and artistic foundations" (7%).
Additionally, for improving residential conditions, "job and economic issues" (38%) were selected as the top priority, and for tourism industry development, "eradication of overcharging" (41%) was chosen as the highest priority task.
A city official stated, "This survey was prepared to inform citizens about the 'Yeosu Bay Renaissance Comprehensive Development Plan' and to reflect citizens' valuable opinions," adding, "We will continue to hold outreach citizen briefings and work together with citizens to envision Yeosu's next 100 years."
Meanwhile, the city plans to use the results of this survey as data for discovering new tasks and preparing promotional measures for the Yeosu Bay Renaissance Comprehensive Development Plan, and intends to conduct related surveys semiannually to further strengthen communication with citizens.
