Kim Chang-yeol, Lee Ufan Forgeries... K-Auction to Offer 10.3 Billion KRW Worth at September Auction

On the 25th, at Gangnam-gu Sinsa-dong K Auction Headquarters
136 items totaling 10.3 billion KRW exhibited

Dewdrops filling the top of a large canvas measuring 2 meters in height shimmer brilliantly. The artwork "Dewdrop" (1973), a representative piece of artist Kim Chang-yeol's work from the 1970s, is seeking a new owner with a starting price of 1 billion KRW.

Art auction house K Auction announced on the 20th that it will hold an auction on the 25th at its headquarters in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, featuring a total of 136 pieces worth approximately 10.3 billion KRW, including modern and contemporary works such as "Dewdrop" and Lee Ufan's "With the Wind," as well as Korean paintings, antiques, and jewelry.


This auction features numerous works by masters representing Korean contemporary art, including Kim Chang-yeol. Notable pieces include Lee Ufan's 150-ho "Dialogue" (estimated price 980 million to 1.8 billion KRW) and 60-ho "With the Wind" (540 million to 800 million KRW), Yoon Hyung-geun's 100-ho "Untitled" (550 million to 800 million KRW), and Park Seo-bo's 100-ho "Myobeop No. 060730" (500 million to 650 million KRW).


Additionally, works by Ha Jong-hyun, Lee Geon-yong, Choi Byung-so, and Lee Kang-so, who played important roles in Korean contemporary art, as well as landscape paintings by Do Sang-bong, Lee Dae-won, Lee Sook-ja, and Kim Jong-hak, who captured Korea's natural scenery with their unique styles, will be showcased.


Works by contemporary artists who have consistently attracted attention in the global art market, such as Alex Katz, Peter Halley, Ugo Rondinone, Takashi Murakami, Yang Hye-kyu, and Nicolas Party, will also be auctioned. Nicolas Party’s early drawing small work "Still Life" (2008), currently exhibited in a solo exhibition at Hoam Art Museum, is estimated at 20 to 30 million KRW and will find a new owner. The large 120-ho masterpiece "Persimmon" by Oh Chi-kyun, submitted ahead of autumn, also draws attention with an estimated price of 150 million to 280 million KRW.

In the category of antiques, a 10-panel work "Chaekgado" (120 million to 250 million KRW), Chusa Kim Jeong-hui’s "Sigo" (29 million to 40 million KRW), Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s "Ganchal" (11 million to 20 million KRW), Unbo Kim Ki-chang’s "Cheongnok Sansu" (10 million to 25 million KRW), and Sojeong Byeon Gwan-sik’s "Buhang Chunil" (8 million to 15 million KRW) have been submitted.


The auction items can be viewed free of charge at the K Auction exhibition hall until the 25th. Participation in the auction is possible through written or on-site bidding, telephone, or online live bidding after registering as a K Auction member. On the day of the auction, the 25th, anyone can attend the auction regardless of membership status.
