Store Owner: "I Heard Other Neighborhoods Were Robbed Using the Same Method"
The image of a duo of thieves who lured a part-time worker outside by asking them to report a fight on their behalf, then stole cash from an empty convenience store, has sparked public outrage.
On the 19th, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' reported on a theft incident that occurred on the 8th at a convenience store in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. According to the informant, convenience store owner Mr. A, a man who rushed into the store said, "There is a big fight over there, and I need to report it. But my phone battery is dead. Please come with me to report it," and asked the part-time worker for help.
The part-time worker, who was on their first shift that day, hesitated but eventually followed the man. The alley was quiet at the time, which made the worker suspicious, and they tried to return to the convenience store, but the man grabbed the worker's arm and forcibly pulled them along.
Meanwhile, another man, presumed to be an accomplice, entered the convenience store, skillfully turned on the POS system, stole 90,000 won in cash, and fled. The part-time worker sensed something was wrong and rushed back into the store, but the money was already gone.
Regarding this, Mr. A said, "I reported it to the police, but I have not yet received any news that they have been caught," and added, "I have heard that other neighborhoods have suffered damage using the same method."
Professor Oh Yoon-sung of the Department of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University stated, "Now, the crime method is based on acting and exploiting the guilt of others who feel they must help," adding, "It is evolving with role division and lure tactics, and I hope to hear news that they have been caught."
Netizens who read the story responded with various comments such as, "It must have been very frightening for the part-time worker on their first day. I feel sorry for them," "It's a huge relief that the part-time worker was not hurt," "If it were me, I would have thought I had to help and wouldn't have even considered closing the door," and "They are exploiting people's good hearts; they must be caught."
