EU Provides 160 Million Euro Support to Ukraine for Winter Preparedness

The European Union (EU) announced on the 19th (local time) that it will provide emergency support of 160 million euros (approximately 237.1 billion KRW) to Ukraine for winter heating.


Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, held a joint press conference with Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), in Brussels, Belgium, on the same day, stating, "We will provide 60 million euros for humanitarian aid such as shelters and heaters, and 100 million euros for the repair of energy infrastructure and renewable energy."

Von der Leyen added, "100 million euros of the support funds will be covered by revenues generated from frozen Russian assets within the EU," emphasizing, "Russia must pay the price for what it has destroyed."


Russia has been launching offensives targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Von der Leyen plans to visit Kyiv, Ukraine, on the 20th to discuss energy support with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
