The Police Officer States "Legal Action Against False Information"
Outrage is spreading online after a revelation that a school violence perpetrator from school days became a police officer and sent a wedding invitation 17 years later. The police officer in question announced legal action, stating that "some details are not true," while the police have begun a legal review to determine whether disciplinary action is possible.
Recently, an anonymous post titled "I received a wedding invitation from a school violence perpetrator" was uploaded on the workplace anonymous community Blind. The author, Mr. A, wrote, "I received a wedding invitation from the perpetrator who committed school violence when I was in middle school in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, 17 years ago," adding, "The sudden invitation brought back those memories, making me feel very uncomfortable and confused. Moreover, knowing that the perpetrator is currently a police officer made me think something is seriously wrong."
Mr. A further claimed that Mr. B, who became a police officer, forced him to run errands at the school store (known as 'bread shuttle') for about two years during middle school, made him lie face down on the floor, and stepped on his face in front of everyone, among other acts of violence. He also revealed that Mr. B made him eat dead locusts lying on the floor and took his cellphone to send text messages at will, tormenting him.
Mr. A said, "I could not understand why someone who committed school violence would invite the victim to their wedding, as if considering them a trophy," adding, "At first, I was very confused and tried to ignore it while continuing the conversation." Then, he said, "I received another message asking, 'Why are you ignoring me?'" and added, "At this point, I felt that if I did not give a shock, he might continue to inflict this kind of violence not only on me but also on others."
He especially added, "I do not know what kind of monster he might become in the future with his police rank." He also stated, "After informing the bride, whose contact was on the wedding invitation, about this matter, I was threatened by the perpetrator with a 'defamation lawsuit,' but I intend to respond firmly."
The original post has since been deleted, but screenshots have spread across multiple online communities. Subsequently, the Gangwon Police Agency bulletin board, where Mr. B is affiliated, was flooded with criticisms such as "School violence perpetrators should not become police officers who are role models in society," "Strict investigation is needed for police officers who committed school violence," and "School violence police officers step down." On the Gangneung Police Station bulletin board, which is not Mr. B's affiliation, posts demanding apologies and reflection continued.
On the 19th, Mr. B told Yonhap News in a phone interview, "I apologize for causing concern to the police organization," and stated, "Some details are not true, and I will hold legal responsibility for those parts." It was also reported that the Gangwon Police Agency is conducting a legal review to determine whether suspension or disciplinary action is possible regarding Mr. B's school violence controversy.
