Graduates of vocational high schools in Jeonnam achieved their best-ever results by winning five medals, including a gold medal, at the 47th International Skills Olympics held in Lyon, France.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 19th, graduates from Jeonnam vocational high schools won 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals at the International Skills Olympics organized by the International Skills Olympics Committee.
The competition featured participants from 73 countries competing in 62 skill categories, with about 1,400 athletes and international supervisors. The Korean team, including 6 graduates from Jeonnam vocational high schools, participated with 57 athletes competing in 49 skill categories.

The gold medals were won by Shin Seung-bin, a graduate of Yeosu Information Science High School in the web technology category, and Lee Sang-hyeok, a graduate of Yeosu Technical High School in the welding category.
Shin Seung-bin became the second gold medalist from Yeosu Information Science High School at the International Skills Olympics and contributed to South Korea achieving a four-time consecutive victory in the same category since the 2017 Abu Dhabi competition. Lee Sang-hyeok earned South Korea its fourth-ever gold medal in the welding category.
The silver medals were awarded to Kim Jong-won, a graduate of Yeosu Information Science High School in the mobile app development category, and Lee Ji-yoo, a graduate of Suncheon Hyosan High School in the cooking category. Kim Jong-won delivered South Korea’s first medal in the mobile app development category, while Lee Ji-yoo won the second silver medal in cooking since the 2015 competition.
The bronze medal went to Park Ryeon-seo, a graduate of Jeonnam Beauty High School in the hair design category, and the excellence award was given to Kim Min-jae, a graduate of Yeosu Technical High School in the electrical control category.
Prize money and honors are awarded to medalists according to their rankings: 67.2 million KRW for gold, 56 million KRW for silver, and 39.2 million KRW for bronze. Additionally, benefits include military service exemption as industrial technical personnel, continuous employment incentives, and exemption from the national technical qualification industrial engineer certification exam.
Kim Eun-seop, Director of Career Education, stated, “We are proud of the athletes and instructors who achieved valuable results through their utmost effort and passion,” and added, “We will do our best to support the cultivation of technical talents and education at Jeonnam vocational high schools.”
At this competition, the South Korean team ranked second overall, winning 10 gold, 13 silver, 9 bronze medals, and 11 excellence awards.
