Daegu Dalseong Fossil Museum to Open Temporarily on the 23rd... Holds 20,000 Fossils and Rocks, 1,000 Gemstones

The Dalseong Fossil Museum, the nation's first public museum specializing in fossils, will hold a temporary opening on the 23rd.


A total of 26.5 billion KRW, including 7.5 billion KRW in national and municipal funds, was invested in the construction of the Dalseong Fossil Museum. After completing the building in May and finishing the production and installation of exhibits, the newly prepared Dalseong Fossil Museum will finally be unveiled to the public on the 23rd. Dalseong-gun will temporarily open the museum from the 23rd until October 15th, with the official opening scheduled for October 16th.

Located in Yuga-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, the Dalseong Fossil Museum was built on a site of 8,980 square meters, with a total floor area of 6,042 square meters, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors. The museum features a permanent exhibition hall, a fossil library, an educational experience room, a cafe and a souvenir shop, as well as a multipurpose room.


The museum houses over 20,000 fossils and rocks from Korea and abroad, as well as about 1,000 gemstone specimens. Of these, more than 500 specimens of plant and animal fossils, dinosaur footprint fossils, and marine organism fossils are on display. Major exhibits include stromatolites, trilobites, spiders, turtle eggs, and whale bones.


During the temporary opening period, the cafe and fossil library located on the first floor will be fully open, while the exhibition halls (2nd and 3rd floors) will be accessible only to visitors who register in advance. Advance viewing is available for groups of 20 or more, and reservations can be made by phone up to one day before the desired visit date.


In addition, all educational experience programs based on the exhibition content will be offered free of charge. These programs are available for groups of 10 to 50 participants and can also be booked in advance by phone.


During the temporary opening, the Dalseong Fossil Museum will collect visitor feedback through surveys to improve any shortcomings in the facilities, and will officially open on October 16th after making necessary adjustments.


Choi Jaehoon, the head of Dalseong-gun, Daegu, stated, "I hope the Dalseong Fossil Museum will become the core of fossil content as the nation's first public fossil museum, and we will do our best to establish it as a tourist attraction. We are also planning special exhibitions and educational experience programs to provide high-quality educational and cultural services to citizens, so we ask for your interest and visits."
