CU is launching the premium Makgeolli 'Takol'. It comes in a 500ml bottle priced at 7,900 KRW. The product name Takol is a portmanteau of ‘Excellent Price and Proper Quality’, using a pun to evoke the expression ‘excellent’ and emphasize high quality. It features a rich rice content, no artificial sweeteners, and a high alcohol content. The rice content (47.4%) in this product is about five times higher than that of regular Makgeolli (around 10%). You can enjoy a deep grain aroma and the natural sweetness of domestically produced rice, making it a great match with Korean pancakes (pajeon), meats, and spicy dishes. Additionally, unlike typical Makgeolli production processes that add artificial sweeteners like aspartame or sucralose to create sweetness, Takol uses no artificial sweeteners at all, maximizing the natural sweetness of the main ingredient, rice. Its alcohol content is about twice that of regular Makgeolli, at 12%.
