The Presidential Office convened a security situation review meeting on the 18th to discuss response measures following North Korea's launch of a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM).
According to officials, immediately after North Korea launched the ballistic missile that morning, a meeting was held presided over by In Seong-hwan, the Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office, to receive reports from relevant agencies and deliberate on countermeasures.
Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that around 6:50 a.m., several SRBMs were detected launched northeastward from the Kaechon area in South Pyongan Province.
Recently, as the U.S. November presidential election approaches, North Korea has increased the frequency of provocations and military demonstrations. Just five days after revealing a facility for producing highly enriched uranium (HEU) used in nuclear warhead manufacturing on the 13th, North Korea carried out a missile launch provocation.
