Jesse Lingard, a professional soccer player for FC Seoul, apologized for riding an electric scooter without a license.
On the 17th, Lingard posted a video on his Instagram account and stated, "I rode an electric scooter briefly. I was unaware of the regulation requiring helmet use. Additionally, I did not know that only licensed drivers are allowed to ride."
He added, "I hope foreigners visiting Korea check these regulations carefully. Safety is always the top priority. I will never repeat such an incident again."
Lingard also said, "I apologize for the video I posted earlier. Countries outside the UK have different regulations for riding electric scooters. It is important to pay attention to safety and understand the rules."
Previously, on the 16th, Lingard posted a video on his social media of himself riding an electric scooter. While riding the scooter, Lingard was not wearing a helmet, and since he had received an 18-month license suspension along with a fine for drunk driving in the UK last September, controversy arose over unlicensed driving. Subsequently, Lingard deleted the video.
Under current domestic law, to operate an electric scooter, one must possess a motorbike license or a driver's license. Accordingly, the Gangnam Police Station announced on the 17th that they have begun an investigation into Lingard's license status and whether he was under the influence of alcohol.
