Secured 4.03 Billion Won for Public Cable Maintenance Supported by Ministry of Science and ICT, Joint Maintenance 추진
Expecting Safer Living Environment and Improved Urban Aesthetics through Defective Public Cable Maintenance Project
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is accelerating the maintenance of aerial cables to improve residents' safety and the urban landscape.
The district established a five-year aerial cable maintenance plan in 2021 to enhance safety and urban aesthetics, aiming to invest a total budget of 21 billion KRW by 2026 to achieve a cumulative maintenance rate of 40% for 17,063 poles and communication posts.
This year, the district has designated seven areas?Miseong-dong, Nangok-dong, Seorim-dong, Jungang-dong, Nakseongdae-dong, and Boramae-dong?with a goal to maintain about 12% of the total poles and communication posts.
To this end, in January this year, the district received an ‘Excellent’ grade in the 2024 aerial cable maintenance local government evaluation by the Ministry of Science and ICT, securing 4.03 billion KRW for aerial cable maintenance.
In the first half of this year, each telecommunications company individually maintained their own defective aerial cables in each designated area.
From September, joint maintenance will be conducted, with each telecommunications company taking responsibility for divided sections of the entire maintenance area, including maintaining other companies’ cables within their sections, to complete this year’s aerial cable maintenance.
In particular, during joint maintenance, an on-site task force composed of residents, responsible officials, and telecommunications operators will be operated by neighborhood, promptly addressing reported complaints to enhance resident satisfaction.
After the joint maintenance is completed, the district plans to collect local residents’ opinions through a satisfaction survey and reflect them in next year’s aerial cable maintenance project.
Meanwhile, this year, the district contributed to preventing safety accidents for residents by conducting safety inspections of aerial lines in preparation for heavy rain and strong winds, and by improving the walking environment through special aerial line maintenance in Sharosugil to support the local brand commercial district.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Based on the five-year aerial cable maintenance plan, we will continuously discover efficient maintenance methods to achieve the maintenance goals by 2026,” and added, “We will do our best to create a clean and safe walking environment in Gwanak-gu.”
For other urgent aerial cable maintenance complaints, residents can report them to the Aerial Cable Maintenance Call Center.
