[Polpol News] Yoon Hits Consecutive Lows... Realmeter Follows Gallup with Lowest Ratings

Realmeter Regular Poll 27.0%
Daily Data Shows Late Week Drop to 25.8%
Earlier Gallup Also Records Lowest at 20%

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating has hit a new low since the government took office. Following Gallup, which has been releasing weekly regular opinion polls, the same trend was confirmed by Realmeter. The medical-policy conflict that began with the increase in medical school admissions has escalated into a medical crisis, including emergency room overcrowding, putting the foundation of national governance at risk.

According to a public opinion poll released by Realmeter on the 16th (conducted from the 9th to the 13th nationwide among 2,503 voters aged 18 and over, commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, with 97% mobile phone and 3% landline phone respondents using an automated response system), President Yoon's positive evaluation of his national administration was recorded at 27.0%. This is a 2.9 percentage point drop compared to the survey conducted a week earlier. The previous lowest record was 29.3% in the first week of August 2022, which has now been surpassed.

Negative evaluations hit a record high. It rose by 2.6% from the previous survey to 68.7%.

The daily trend of public opinion, which was conducted on a daily basis, is also unfavorable. The approval rating, which was 27.3% at the beginning of the week (10th), fell to 25.8% by the end of the week (13th). The public opinion poll on the 13th also set a new daily low record. The previous daily low was 26.8%, recorded on May 23, 2024.

A defection phenomenon was also observed among the support base that had upheld President Yoon's approval rating. In Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, the approval rating dropped by 5.1 percentage points from 34.9% to 29.8%. Among those aged 70 and above, where support was strong, the approval rating fell by 5.7 percentage points from 48.7% to 43.0%. Conservative support also declined by 6.7 percentage points from 51.7% to 43.0%. As a result, there is no demographic subgroup by age, gender, region, or ideological tendency where positive evaluations exceed negative evaluations.

The trend was the same in the public opinion poll released by Gallup on the 13th (conducted from the 10th to the 12th nationwide among 1,002 voters aged 18 and over, using mobile phone interviews by telephone interviewers). The approval rating indicating that President Yoon is doing well in national administration was 20%. This was a 3% drop from the previous survey, barely maintaining the 20% mark, which is the lowest since the current government took office. Negative evaluations, indicating poor governance, rose by 3 percentage points to 70%.
