On the 16th (local time), according to AP, AFP, and dpa news agencies, four more bodies?two women and two men?were recovered in the village of Kłodzko in southwestern Poland, raising the death toll to five from the previous one.
In the Czech Republic, one person drowned in a stream near Brunt?l in the northeast, and at least seven people are reported missing, Police Chief Martin Bondrasek said on local radio that day.
In Austria, where a firefighter involved in flood response died, local police reported two additional deaths: a 70-year-old man and an 80-year-old man.
As a result, the death toll from the heavy rains that have continued for five days from the 11th through the previous day, causing numerous missing persons and millions of displaced people in Eastern and Central Europe, has risen to 15, including six in Romania.
Search and rescue operations for missing persons are ongoing in the affected areas, so the death toll may increase further.
