Mercedes-Benz Fire at Hoengseong Rest Area, Off-Duty Firefighters Extinguish in 10 Minutes

No Human Casualties Reported

Off-duty active firefighters prevented major damage by initially extinguishing a fire that broke out in a parking lot at a highway rest area.

At around 2:39 p.m. on the 15th, a fire broke out in a Mercedes-Benz passenger car in the parking lot of Hoengseong Rest Area on the Yeongdong Expressway in Anheung-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon Province.

At the time, Firefighter Shim Myeong-seop from Hongcheon Fire Station and Fire Chief Jeon Su-gwon from Yangpyeong Fire Station in Gyeonggi, who were at the rest area, used an indoor fire hydrant to extinguish the fire within about 10 minutes.

The vehicle was completely burned in the fire, and the fire authorities estimated property damage at approximately 15 million won. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

The fire authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
