Legal Video Expert "2 to 3 Requests Per Year"
Shows Reluctance to Accept Analysis Results
Cases of husbands requesting video analysis, claiming that the woman in pornographic videos appears to be their own wife, are once again drawing attention.
On the 15th, various online communities posted a thread titled "Husbands who come asking to confirm if the woman in porn is their own wife." The post contained content from a video introducing an anecdote of forensic video analyst Hwang Mingu, who appeared on the 2021 'I Want to Know That' YouTube channel.
At that time, Mr. Hwang responded to the question, "Do you have any clients that stand out the most?" by saying, "There are definitely two or three recurring cases every year. They are people who come after watching pornographic videos," adding, "They request to verify whether the woman in the video is their own wife."
Mr. Hwang mentioned that in some of the requested videos, the characters spoke Japanese or, even to a layperson (not an expert), it was clear they were not the same person, yet there were clients who stubbornly insisted on video analysis. He said, "When they bring such videos and say, 'I don't mind how much it costs. I want to request this,' I quote a very high price as a way to decline. Then they ask for a discount. At that point, they somewhat come back to reason," and confessed, "Honestly, two or three such cases come in every year."
When Do Junwoo, the producer of 'I Want to Know That,' asked, "Is this somewhat like morbid jealousy or Othello syndrome? When such requests come in, do you actually perform the analysis?" Mr. Hwang replied, "Even if I don't want to, the client cries. They say they can't eat or sleep because of this," adding, "So when I ask, 'What will you do if it turns out not to be your wife?' they say they will accept it." Mr. Hwang said, "Someone has to solve this. At that moment, I feel like a doctor," and explained, "In the end, I write and deliver an analysis report stating 'It is not the same person.' So far, 99% of such cases have been confirmed as not the same person." When asked if clients usually accept the analysis results, Mr. Hwang lamented, "They hardly accept it," saying, "'I have known my wife for decades; I know her better than you do,' they say."
