Gimpo 1m Large Lizard Escape Incident... Captured 3 Hours After Report

Return of Large Pet Tegu Lizard to Owner Without Injury
Disaster Alert Sent Due to 'Risk of Biting' Judgment

On the 15th, in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province, a pet lizard about 1 meter long escaped, causing a commotion as disaster alert messages were sent to residents. The lizard was captured about three hours after the report was received.

Around noon that day, a resident in Masan-dong, Gimpo-si, reported losing a pet Tegu lizard while taking a walk. The police and fire authorities judged that although the lizard is not venomous, it can bite and is therefore dangerous, and requested Gimpo-si to send out disaster alert messages.

The lizard was captured near the reported location around 2:51 PM. A fire official said, "The escaped lizard was captured and returned to its owner 2 hours and 50 minutes after the report was received, and it has been confirmed that there was no damage caused by the lizard."
