1 Million Cumulative Viewers in Two Days
Box Office Success at the Same Pace as 'Cheonman Yeonghwa' 'Beomjoe Doshi 4'
'Pamyo' Reaches 1 Million Viewers on the Third Day
The movie 'Veteran 2' is sailing smoothly toward surpassing 10 million viewers. On its second day of release, 'Veteran 2' exceeded a cumulative audience of 1 million. It is running on the same successful track as 'Crime City 4,' a '10 million movie' released last May.
Distributor CJ ENM announced that the cumulative audience for director Ryu Seung-wan's new work, Veteran 2, surpassed 1 million around 2 p.m. on the 14th. This pace matches that of 'Crime City 4,' a 10 million movie released last May. Another 10 million movie, 'Pawn,' surpassed 1 million cumulative viewers on its third day of release.
Veteran 2 achieved approximately 497,000 viewers on its opening day. This result is due to the high reservation rate even before the release. As of the 13th, the movie's revenue share was 90.2%. Calculated simply by ticket revenue, 9 out of 10 people who visited the theater watched Veteran 2. As of 3 a.m. on the 14th, Veteran 2 recorded about 549,000 reserved viewers and a reservation rate of 76.4%.
However, evaluations from viewers of Veteran 2 are mixed. In CGV's Golden Egg Index, which is calculated based on actual viewer evaluations, Veteran 2 shows an 86% score. The Golden Egg Index is CGV's proprietary movie rating system, calculated from reviews written by actual viewers within 7 days after watching. While many praise the distinctive action style of director Ryu, some viewers have shown negative reactions, saying that compared to the previous film 'Veteran (2015),' the genre seems different and the story feels clich?d.
Veteran 2 is a sequel released 9 years after the hit Veteran, which attracted 13.41 million viewers. It depicts the story of Seo Do-cheol, a detective in the violent crime investigation unit known for 'catching bad guys to the end' (played by Hwang Jung-min), and Park Sun-woo, the youngest detective who joins the unit (played by Jung Hae-in), as they chase a serial killer who shook the world.
