Gyeonggi Uijeongbu City announced on the 14th that Kim Dong-geun, mayor of Uijeongbu, visited Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Uijeongbu Hospital on the afternoon of the 13th to check the emergency room operation preparations during the Chuseok holiday period.

At the event, Mayor Kim said, “Since this holiday season comes during difficult times, it is essential to actively accommodate patients and operate the emergency room thoroughly, including the fever clinic,” and added, “I hope it will play a pivotal role in public healthcare in northern Gyeonggi as a public medical institution.”

In particular, Mayor Kim’s visit to Uijeongbu Medical Center was even more meaningful as it came after the confirmation of the preservation of Uijeongbu Hospital as part of the Northern Gyeonggi Grand Renovation Project recently announced by Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon.

Until now, the city has insisted that Uijeongbu Hospital, which has played a major role in public healthcare in northern Gyeonggi and medical services for vulnerable groups for nearly half a century and in overcoming national health crises such as infectious diseases, must remain in Uijeongbu separately from the construction of the Northern Gyeonggi Public Medical Center.

Uijeongbu Hospital has been operating its main building since its completion in 1977 in Uijeongbu-dong, along with the west wing (1993), east wing (1997), and new building and funeral hall (2002). In particular, there have been several complaints from patients using the hospital regarding the narrow parking lot and poor facilities.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “Since it has been decided that Uijeongbu Hospital will remain in our Uijeongbu, I will actively communicate with Gyeonggi Province to devise various plans for the hospital’s development.”
