Ministry of Health and Welfare Receives Top A Grade in 1st Cycle Dementia Safety Center Operation Evaluation...Ministerial Award Winner
High Scores for Early Dementia Detection, Specialized Programs, and Public Guardianship Services
Center Director Moon Yeon-sil Honored with National Medal...“Committed to Improving Quality of Life for Dementia Patients and Families”
The Dementia Safety Center of Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor) achieved the highest grade, A, in the first cycle center operation evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
This evaluation diagnosed the operational performance of 256 dementia safety centers nationwide by dividing them into five types. Based on three indicators?▲dementia infrastructure establishment ▲dementia service provision and management ▲local dementia capacity enhancement?only the top 10% were awarded an A grade. Among Seoul’s autonomous districts, three were selected and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
In particular, the Gwangjin-gu Dementia Safety Center received high scores in areas such as ‘early detection of dementia,’ ‘specialized dementia programs,’ ‘public guardianship services for dementia,’ and ‘resource linkage.’ The promotion of various demand-centered dementia prevention projects and systematic support measures for dementia families led to these excellent results.
In recognition of these achievements, on the 12th, Moon Yeon-sil, head of the Gwangjin-gu Dementia Safety Center, received the National Medal of Honor at the 17th Dementia Overcoming Day commemorative event hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Director Moon expressed, “We will strive to provide more diverse programs to improve the quality of life for dementia patients and their families.”
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This achievement is a valuable result accomplished through the cooperation of the Gwangjin-gu Dementia Safety Center, Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center, and residents,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that the local community takes the lead in supporting a healthy and safe daily life free from dementia.”
Established in 2009, the Gwangjin-gu Dementia Safety Center has been making various efforts to prevent and manage dementia and improve social awareness. It was the first in the nation to operate psychological counseling called ‘Sesang-eun Allokdallokhae’ (The World is Colorful), and is currently conducting delivery of care supplies and self-help meetings for patient families. Additionally, the center has attracted much attention by promoting the ‘Dementia Safety Store,’ which offers up to a 50% discount benefit to registered patients and their families.
