Pope Francis traveled to four Southeast Asian countries?Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Singapore?over a total of 12 days starting from the 2nd of this month. This visit has attracted significant local attention due to it being the longest overseas pastoral trip since his papacy began in 2013, and because it is the first visit to Singapore since Pope John Paul II in 1986.

The Ioniq 5 that the Pope rode this time is reported to be a prestige model made at Hyundai Motor Group’s Global Innovation Center (HMGICS) located in Singapore. HMGICS serves as a global hub used for multiple purposes including small-scale vehicle assembly, research and development, exhibition, and sales. Autonomous robo-taxis and the Ioniq 6 are also produced here.
