Catholic University Hosts Joint Research Symposium on 'Convergent Innovation'

Expansion of Joint Research and Industry-Academia Cooperation Opportunities

Catholic University held a joint research symposium to achieve interdisciplinary convergence innovation.


The Catholic University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation hosted the Catholic University Joint Research Symposium under the theme "Convergence Creates Innovation" on the 12th at the Seong Young-cheol Convention Hall in Catholic University Omnibus Park, aiming to achieve true innovation through cooperation and integration beyond academic boundaries.


About 200 people attended the symposium, including Father Won Jong-cheol, president of Catholic University, Professor Na Geon, vice president for academic affairs, Professor Lee Hwa-sung, vice president for medical affairs, Professor Park Cheol-hwi, and Father Choi Jun-gyu, head of the University Development Promotion Team, to discuss future research together.


This symposium was planned to actively connect researchers within the university who hope for mutual cooperation in research, expanding opportunities for joint research and industry-academic cooperation. Catholic University organized this event to foster a vibrant atmosphere of research collaboration, promote academic exchange, and enhance the qualitative and quantitative improvement of university research achievements and expansion of research fields through multidisciplinary convergence research among researchers.


In particular, a session was prepared to share research content and explore interdisciplinary cooperation methods on two topics: "Vaccines and Cell Therapy" and "AI (Artificial Intelligence) and New Drug Development," which are being jointly researched by participating researchers.


Moderated by Professor Kim Sang-tae of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, the symposium proceeded in two sessions under the theme "Convergence Creates Innovation."

The first session was co-chaired by Professor Kim Myung-shin of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Catholic University Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital and Professor Yoo Hee-joo of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Catholic University. Under the theme "Collaborative Research Cases," two teams currently conducting joint research within the university presented the progress and outcomes of their research.


The second session, titled "Research for Future Collaborations," consisted of two parts with a total of 14 research presentations.


The first part featured seven research presentations under the theme "Advancements in Healthcare: Exploring the Frontiers of Vaccine and Cell Therapy," co-chaired by Professor Kim Sung-won of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Catholic University Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital and Professor Choi Jin-sung of the College of Pharmacy at Catholic University.


The second part introduced seven studies under the theme "Power of Data: AI-driven Medical Research and Drug Development," co-chaired by Professor Kim Tae-min of the Department of Medical Informatics at Catholic University College of Medicine and Professor Jung Dong-hwa of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Catholic University.


Jo Seok-gu, director of the Catholic University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, said, "I hope this meaningful time under the agenda 'Convergence Creates Innovation' allows experts from various fields to share their knowledge and insights and create new synergies," adding, "I am grateful to the researchers at Catholic University who are producing innovative research outcomes with 'expectation and courage' despite difficult circumstances."


Father Won Jong-cheol, president of Catholic University, expressed in his congratulatory remarks, "I am very thankful to be with you at this meaningful moment that gathers Catholic University’s academic passion and research potential to promote innovation toward the future," and stated, "I hope this symposium serves as a beacon that explores new research possibilities through closer collaboration and brightens the future of Catholic University."
