Gallup Poll
People Power Party Support Hits Lowest Since Current Government Inauguration
People Power Party 28%, Democratic Party 31%
President Yoon Suk-yeol and the ruling party, the People Power Party, have seen their approval ratings drop to the lowest levels since the launch of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. It was found that 7 out of 10 citizens gave negative evaluations of the government's management. The approval ratings remain stuck in a slump as issues such as the medical service gap caused by legislative conflicts remain unresolved.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 13th by Gallup (conducted from the 10th to the 12th nationwide among 1,002 people aged 18 and over via wireless phone interviewer surveys), the approval rating indicating that President Yoon is managing state affairs well was 20%. This marks a 3% drop compared to the previous survey, barely maintaining the 20% level. Negative evaluations, meaning that the government is managing poorly, rose by 3 percentage points to 70%. The 20% approval rating is the lowest figure among the regular surveys conducted by Gallup since the current administration began.
Responses indicating that President Yoon is currently "doing well" were prominent only among People Power Party supporters (55%), while negative evaluations were especially high among Democratic Party and Party for Justice and Innovation supporters (in the 90% range), as well as those in their 40s (89%). Among those aged 70 and over and conservative-leaning groups, the negative rate was around 50%, with positive evaluations remaining around 30%.
President Yoon's approval rating has remained at 20% for five months since the April general election. However, this time it recorded the lowest point within that period. Among those who gave positive evaluations (205 people), the biggest reasons cited were diplomacy (15%) and the expansion of medical school quotas (14%). Among those who gave negative evaluations (706 people), the expansion of medical school quotas (18%) and issues related to the economy, livelihood, and prices (12%) were cited as reasons.
The ruling People Power Party's approval rating also fell by 3 percentage points from the previous week, recording 28%. The 28% is the lowest figure since the People Power Party became the ruling party. The Democratic Party's approval rating rose by 1 percentage point to 33%. The Party for Justice and Innovation was at 8%, and the Reform Party was at 2%, respectively.
Meanwhile, regarding the government's pension reform plan, which includes raising the National Pension insurance contribution rate from 9% to 13% and adjusting the income replacement rate from the existing 40% to 42%, support was at 37%, while opposition was at 41%.
