Kia is collaborating with FortyTwoDot and Geotab to develop a Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) Fleet Management System (FMS).
On the 13th, Kia announced that it recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of the PBV Fleet Management System at Geotab's headquarters in Canada.
FortyTwoDot is Hyundai Motor Group's global software center, responsible for developing core software for the group’s vehicles. Geotab is a connected vehicle technology provider offering services in 160 countries worldwide.
The FMS, which the three companies will jointly develop, is software that supports vehicle operation and management. It is primarily used by companies operating multiple vehicles for business purposes, such as rental car and logistics operators.
Through this agreement, the three companies plan to develop an FMS that enables real-time management using vehicle data based on a cloud server without separate devices, and apply it to Kia’s first dedicated PBV ‘PV5’, scheduled for mass production in 2025.
Furthermore, they will also pursue developing a driver application that analyzes and utilizes vehicle information data to suggest optimal driving routes and safe driving, which will be pre-installed on the Kia PBV display.
Kia expects this collaboration to provide solutions optimized for customer business environments and contribute to the ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ strategy by leveraging excellent vehicle data utilization capabilities and software development competitiveness.
Kim Sang-dae, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia PBV Division, said, "Collaboration with FortyTwoDot and Geotab will be a turning point leading the strategic growth of Kia’s PBV business. We will continue efforts to become a provider of ‘customized mobility solutions’ with various partners."
Lim Sang-seok, Head of AEV Platform Engineering at FortyTwoDot, said, "By combining FortyTwoDot’s vehicle data platform with intelligent vehicle safety technology, we will develop an FMS that meets both current and future challenges of the global mobility industry."
Louis De Young, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Geotab, said, "By combining Geotab’s data and AI capabilities, Kia’s vehicle manufacturing technology, and FortyTwoDot’s data expertise, we will provide customers with high-level data insights. This collaboration will be an opportunity to advance the global mobility industry as a whole."
