Moorim Joins UNGC... "Full-Scale Global ESG Management"

Murim announced on the 13th that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (hereinafter UNGC) and will strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in line with global standards.

The UNGC is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative launched by the United Nations (UN) in 2000. It aims to comply with ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. Currently, about 25,000 companies from over 160 countries worldwide participate. In South Korea, major companies such as Samsung Electronics, Naver, and SK Innovation are involved.

Moorim Joins UNGC... "Full-Scale Global ESG Management"

Taking this opportunity of joining the UNGC, Murim plans not only to internalize the ten principles throughout its management but also to actively foster a corporate culture aimed at achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, it will transparently disclose key annual achievements to stakeholders through a Communication on Progress (CoP) report.

Meanwhile, Murim has already been practicing sustainable management in line with the UNGC’s ten principles and has been recognized for its achievements. As a result of efforts to operate eco-friendly workplaces and develop sustainable products with the goal of responding to climate change and minimizing environmental impact, Murim was the only paper company to receive an ‘AA grade’ in the overall rating in Sustainvest’s ‘2024 First Half ESG Evaluation’ in June this year, ranking first in the paper sector.

In the case of Murim P&P, it reduces biomass ‘black liquor’ generated from the pulp production process into renewable energy and utilizes it in paper product manufacturing, creating an annual greenhouse gas reduction effect of 800,000 tons. Since 2023, it has been expanding eco-friendly recovery boilers using black liquor. Murim Paper also became the first in the domestic industry to receive a Gold grade in the ‘Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL)’ certification, recognizing its excellent resource circulation system.

Furthermore, Murim is leading the development of sustainable products. It produces eco-friendly products such as the only Ministry of Environment-certified ‘Low Carbon Paper’ in Korea, the highest grade ‘Natural Pulp Mold’ biodegradable certification from the European certification body TUV AUSTRIA, and patented ‘Paper Tissue’ made entirely of paper for fabric and packaging materials.
