Seo Gang-seok, District Mayor, “We Will Complete an Inclusive City with ‘Service Administration’ Where No One Is Left Behind”
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) visited low-income elderly living alone and group homes ahead of Chuseok, checking on the difficulties of marginalized neighbors and sharing warmth to ensure they have a heartfelt holiday.
Mayor Seo Gang-seok prioritizes care and support for marginalized groups in district administration and is carrying out inclusive governance that embraces those in need.
On September 13, ahead of Chuseok, Mayor Seo visited the field to offer encouragement and comfort to neighbors in difficulty and to listen directly to their concerns.
As the first schedule of the day, Mayor Seo visited a group home located in Macheon-dong.
He expressed gratitude to the facility director and staff who take on parental roles in caring for the children and encouraged them to have a generous Chuseok holiday with the children.
A group home is a place where children and adolescents who need protection due to parental abuse, poverty, death, etc., live together with peers in a family community. There are six such facilities operating in Songpa-gu.
Next, he visited the home of an elderly person living alone in Pungnap-dong. After exchanging holiday greetings, he chatted while checking on any inconveniences of living alone and health conditions.
Ms. Lee (75, female) expressed gratitude for the surprise visit and shared her impressions of the AI companion robot ‘Hyosoni’ supported by the district. She said, “When I come home, ‘Hyosoni’ warmly welcomes me, plays music to prevent feelings of depression, and even carefully reminds me when it’s time to take my medicine, so I never feel lonely.”
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope everyone has a warm holiday by paying attention to marginalized neighbors during Chuseok, when economic difficulties and loneliness increase,” and added, “Going forward, Songpa-gu will continue ‘servant administration’ for all, including vulnerable groups and residents in welfare blind spots, to create an inclusive city without anyone being left out.”
