Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo District Office in Seoul, visited Gangseo Hillstate Apartments near Ujangsan Station on the 12th to inspect the maintenance status of electric vehicle charging facilities and fire prevention equipment.

Mayor Jin, along with officials from Gangseo Fire Station, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and the safety management department, closely examined fire suppression equipment such as fire smothering blankets, automated fire detection systems, and fire pumps designed for electric vehicle fire control. He also toured the disaster prevention room, machinery room, and management office to review the initial response manuals, including the fire station contact system and disaster prevention system operation in case of an electric vehicle fire.

Mayor Jin stated, “While initial response is important in the event of a fire, proactive measures must come first,” adding, “We will promote safety guidelines for preventing electric vehicle fires, such as setting charging limits and preventing overcharging.” He continued, “We will strengthen organic cooperation with related agencies by supporting fire suppression equipment like smothering covers to the fire station,” and said he would actively consider supporting charging control devices to prevent battery overcharging, which is cited as a major cause of electric vehicle fires.

Gangseo District plans to prioritize safety inspections for electric vehicle fire prevention at 16 apartment complexes with more than 1,000 households by next month, then expand the scope to complete inspections of all 333 apartment complexes in the area.
