Goyang Mayor Donghwan Lee Meets Citizens Directly to Discuss Current Issues

‘Meeting with the Mayor’ Held... A Communication Platform to Resolve Local Issues
Discussion on Dongducheon-Yangju Transmission Line Construction and CJ Live City Contract Termination

Goyang Mayor Donghwan Lee Meets Citizens Directly to Discuss Current Issues Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City is meeting with representatives of Mokam Village residents on the 11th to discuss related issues.

The Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 12th that it held a communication forum on the 11th to directly hear citizens' opinions and resolve complaints regarding local issues such as the Dongducheon-Yangju transmission line construction project and the termination of the CJ Live City contract.

The first agenda item was the demand to build the Dongducheon-Yangju transmission line as originally planned by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). A problem was raised regarding the construction proceeding without consultation with nearby Mokam Village residents during the process of changing the transmission line route closer to Goyang City.

The city plans to actively cooperate with the Mokam Village residents if they take legal actions such as requesting a suspension of construction. To build the transmission towers according to the original plan, the city will continuously convey the residents' demands to KEPCO and strongly respond to complaints filed with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

Regarding the second agenda item, the termination of the CJ Live City contract, a meeting was held with the Ilsan Federation. CJ Live City was a long-cherished project of Goyang City, promoted under an agreement with Gyeonggi Province in 2016. However, the project was canceled after Gyeonggi Province unilaterally notified CJ, the project implementer, of contract termination in June.

The city judged that the swift normalization of the K-Culture Valley is of utmost importance and proposed specific measures to Gyeonggi Province, including renegotiations with CJ, switching back to a private development-led project method, separate promotion as an economic free zone, formation of a multilateral consultative body (Gyeonggi Province, Goyang City, Goyang citizens, political circles, companies), and the enactment of the K-Culture Valley ordinance.

The president of the Ilsan Federation expressed gratitude for the invisible cooperation from Goyang City and Ilsan Seo-gu Office so far but said, “We hope the city will actively respond to ensure the normal progress of the CJ Live City project.”

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Seeing the achievement of 50,000 signatures for the petition demanding a national audit for the original CJ Live City project, I deeply felt the wishes of Goyang citizens and thank them for their interest and efforts. We will continue to create many opportunities for communication to discuss local issues and listen to the diverse voices of citizens.”

Meanwhile, representatives of the residents' associations of One City Blocks 1, 2, and 3 requested Mayor Lee Dong-hwan’s attention and support to install an elevator at Exit 3 of GTX Kintex.
