On the 12th, the Presidential Office criticized some opposition lawmakers for forming the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment Preparation Lawmakers' Alliance,' questioning, "Is this a build-up of the Lee Jae-myung protective alliance trying to shield Lee through impeachment as the first trial verdict of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, approaches?"
Spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the same day and pointed out, "The opposition party, which had been brainwashing the public with talk of constitutional amendments and impeachment, now openly says they are preparing for impeachment."
Spokesperson Jeong said, "The opposition spread rumors about martial law and, as expected, their intention to build up impeachment is gradually becoming clear," adding, "There are also reports that they plan to induce severe national turmoil through large-scale illegal rallies around the verdict. Is that really the case?"
Jeong stated, "They are still clinging to the martial law rumors and are even proposing amendments to martial law that are unnecessary," and asked, "Is it not enough for them to impeach prosecutors and judges investigating the opposition, and now they want to impeach the president as well?" She further dismissed the opposition by saying, "Politics should reassure the people, but if they make them anxious like this, the opposition parties including the Democratic Party will not even qualify as legitimate political parties."
Yongsan: "What Needs Special Prosecutors and Hearings Is the Democratic Party’s Fabricated Whistleblower Politics"
Additionally, the Presidential Office criticized the participants of the Marine Corps group chat who denied the allegations of lobbying to save Im Seong-geun, calling it a Democratic Party fabrication, stating, "The lack of substance in the Im Seong-geun lobbying allegations has been revealed."
A Presidential Office official told reporters on the same day, "We believe the conclusion that the Presidential Office exerted external pressure was predetermined, and that the photos and statements of whistleblowers were manipulated to turn this into a scandal."
The official emphasized, "The Democratic Party strategically used the fabricated whistleblower case in special prosecutors and hearings," adding, "Ultimately, the participants in the group chat testified that they suffered damage from absurd speculation and conjecture, proving that this allegation was a fabricated whistleblower case." He continued, "What truly requires special prosecutors and hearings is this kind of fabricated whistleblower politics," and added, "Now it is the Democratic Party’s turn to answer about the substance of this fabricated whistleblower case."
