POSCO Group has established the course "Sustainable Management and ESG" for the second semester this year, following the first semester, in collaboration with major domestic universities.

The Sustainable Management course has been running for four years since 2021. In the second semester of this year, it was offered at 11 universities including Catholic University, Kyungpook National University, Gyeongsang National University, Sogang University, Seoul Women’s University, Sookmyung Women’s University, Suncheon National University, Ulsan University, Chung-Ang University, POSTECH, and Hanyang University (in alphabetical order). In particular, the course was also introduced at five universities selected as Glocal Universities by the Ministry of Education?Kyungpook National University, Gyeongsang National University, Suncheon National University, Ulsan University, and POSTECH?strengthening cooperation with Glocal Universities. It is expected that about 300 students in the first semester and 400 students in the second semester, totaling approximately 700 students, will complete the course this year. Including the second semester, a cumulative total of 23 universities and about 1,700 students will have participated.

To support the operation of the course, POSCO Group provides mentoring, special lectures, and learning materials from sustainability management practitioners of its various business units, including POSCO, POSCO E&C, POSCO Future M, POSCO DX, POSCO Flow, POSCO Steelion, POSCO A&C, POSCO Wide, POSCO M-Tech, N2B, POSCO IH, and POSCO Humans.

The Sustainable Management course is conducted using a PBL (Problem·Project-Based Learning) approach, which not only helps students acquire concepts and theories but also cultivates problem-solving skills and practical capabilities by sharing real business management issues and proposing alternatives.

Students undertake projects to discover creative ideas and solutions for social issues that companies should address. The fact that students can directly design projects based on the concepts and theories learned in class has received high interest and satisfaction from both professors and students, earning positive evaluations.

At the end of November this year, POSCO Center in Seoul will host the "POSCO ESG Level-Up Ground" presentation contest, inviting university students, participating professors, and business company mentors to share sustainable management ideas developed over the semester.

Cha Joo-eun, a student from the Department of Business Administration at Chonnam National University who participated in the first semester this year, said, "In theory-focused classes, I felt some limitations in fully understanding the material, but working with mentors currently in the field allowed me to apply it to real situations, which was a valuable experience."

Outstanding ideas proposed at the Level-Up Ground have been reflected in sustainability management practices of POSCO Group’s business units, contributing to tangible results. A representative example is POSCO DX, which is currently negotiating with related organizations to apply the "AI-based Forest Fire Prevention System" idea proposed by POSTECH students in the first semester last year to national parks in Korea. Starting as early as the end of this year, the program installation will be used to monitor forest fire risks in real-time at Gyeongju National Park.

Additionally, POSCO M-Tech, which conducted a project with Handong University in the first semester this year, agreed to promote various publicity, recycling, and social contribution activities linked to the eco-friendly campaign "K League Green Kickoff" at the opening of the 2025 season, reflecting the idea proposed by students for "Recycling Aluminum Cans Generated in the K League and Households."

Going forward, POSCO Group plans to continue operating the Sustainable Management course in collaboration with major domestic universities, including Glocal Universities, and to further strengthen industry-academia cooperation.
