SolarTech, a renewable energy engineering company, announced on the 12th that it has completed a 1.66MW self-consumption solar power plant at Samyangsa Packaging Gwanghyewon Plant, a chemical business operated by Samyangsa Packaging Co., Ltd., through the ‘Carbon Neutral Facility Support Project’ implemented by the Ministry of Environment.

Self-consumption solar power is a method of saving energy by prioritizing the use of generated electricity within the business site, and it is becoming a trend for companies practicing ESG management to introduce it for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Samyang Packaging is the largest PET Bottle and Aseptic Filling (beverage aseptic filling) specialized company in Korea and has recently been accelerating its environmental management efforts. It is leading carbon reduction efforts by focusing on eco-friendly manufacturing technologies and process improvements, such as Korea’s first eco-friendly PET cycle that connects the production, distribution, and recycling of PET Bottles.

Through the installation of this carbon-neutral facility, Samyangsa Packaging is expected to produce 2.184MWh of renewable energy annually, save approximately 358 million KRW in electricity costs, and reduce about 1,003 tons of greenhouse gases, thereby making a significant direct contribution to carbon neutrality.

Meanwhile, the ‘Carbon Neutral Facility Support Project’ implemented by the Ministry of Environment is a government subsidy program that supports investment costs up to 50% for medium-sized enterprises and up to 70% for small and medium-sized enterprises subject to the emissions trading scheme allocation, in order to achieve the national carbon neutrality goal.
