Gangseo-gu Selected for Welfare Improvement Project for Residents in Airport Noise Countermeasure Areas

Operation of Programs Including Traditional Games and Traditional Food Making Worth 51.3 Million Won

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) has been finally selected for a public contest project aimed at improving the welfare of residents in airport noise countermeasure areas. This contest is a project applied for by local governments to Korea Airports Corporation on behalf of residents inconvenienced by aircraft noise, proposing improvements in cultural welfare and residents' living environments.

In this contest, the district secured a project budget of approximately 51.3 million KRW with the traditional culture experience program titled "The Elegance and Taste of Tradition into the World." This program consists of ▲traditional games ▲traditional food making ▲traditional liquor brewing, and will be operated until July next year targeting local residents and tourists.

The traditional games experience offers opportunities to try 10 traditional games such as Yutnori and Biseokchigi at Magokhaneui Park, Songjeong Elementary and Middle Schools, among others. Additionally, in the jang-making village of Gonghang-dong, participants can learn about Korean traditional culture through experiences making traditional foods like doenjang, gochujang, and holiday dishes. At the Gonghang-dong Community Center, visitors can have a unique experience by making traditional liquor and side dishes themselves.

Korea Airports Corporation reviews and selects proposed projects suited to regional characteristics and fully covers the costs of the selected projects.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "This program is operated to improve the living environment and revitalize commercial areas near Gimpo International Airport," adding, "We will continue to do our best to discover and promote projects that enhance the welfare of residents affected by airport noise."
