Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon Engages Directly with Maritime and Land Logistics Sites Ahead of Chuseok

At 1:10 PM on the 12th, Mayor Park Visits HMM Integrated Vessel Control Center and Busan Post Office to Hear Chuseok Field Voices Directly

Mayor Park: "I Will Prioritize the Safety and Happiness of Every Citizen and Do My Best for Busan's Future"

Mayor Park Hyungjoon will visit the 'HMM Integrated Vessel Control Center' and the 'Busan Post Office' at 1:10 p.m. on the 12th, both of which are responsible for national maritime logistics and Busan's land logistics, respectively, even during the Chuseok holiday.

This on-site visit is intended to encourage logistics workers at home and abroad who are diligently performing their duties during the Chuseok holiday, and to directly listen to the voices from the field regarding the development of the logistics industry, which is essential for Busan to leap forward as a 'global hub city'.

This is a continuation of the relay communication with the public, following the visit to the traditional market (Paldo Market) on September 3 to directly check the price trends of major Chuseok holiday items and the city's price stabilization measures on site.

First, Mayor Park will visit the 'HMM Integrated Vessel Control Center' (located in Jungang-dong, Jung-gu) to encourage employees working on the front lines of overseas logistics, and request safe and efficient vessel operations during the Chuseok holiday.

Established in 2020, the Integrated Vessel Control Center consists of the Main Control Room (Integrated Control), Safety Room (Vessel Safety Support), and Performance Room (Vessel Engine Operation Support). Through a smart IT system, it monitors data from over 10,000 vessels in real time, identifies various risk factors in advance, and supports the safety of vessels, crew, and cargo.

Next, via radio communication, he will check on the operation status of the ultra-large 13,000 TEU container ship 'HMM Sapphire', which is currently sailing in the Americas, and spend time communicating and encouraging Captain Kang Eunsu and the crew for their hard work.

One TEU refers to a single container about 6 meters in length.

The 'HMM Sapphire' currently has 23 crew members including Captain Kang Eunsu on board.

Mayor Park will express his gratitude to the crew working far away at sea during the holiday, and seek ways to vitalize the shipping industry, such as improving crew rights, fostering professional talent, and enhancing the status of seafarers.

The city has supported 532 million KRW this year to foster about 1,300 professionals in five fields necessary for a global logistics hub city, including maritime officers, ship crew, ship management experts, logistics field personnel, and logistics professionals in cooperation with universities.

Following this, Mayor Park will visit the 'Busan Post Office', which covers Jung-gu and Seo-gu, to check the logistics communication situation during the Chuseok holiday, encourage postal workers who are struggling with the surge in deliveries, and request safe operations for the delivery staff.

Mayor Park will communicate directly with Busan Post Office employees, review the operation of the special postal delivery period for Chuseok, and discuss ways to reduce the workload of field workers, such as the operation of the automated mail sorting machine 'Sunro Gubungi'.

He will also visit and express gratitude to the 'Woojungi Volunteer Group' employees, who are engaged in community activities such as home repairs for about 10 vulnerable households each year.

The city and Busan Regional Post Office continue to collaborate on improving citizen convenience, including a 10% discount on international express mail for multicultural families, the 'Well-being Parcel Mail Service', and the 'Welfare Registered Mail for Dementia Patients'.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon said, "I would like to thank everyone who is quietly dedicating themselves to the happiness of citizens and the development of Busan during this Chuseok holiday," and added, "Thanks to these efforts, our city will continue to take steps toward a better future for Busan. We will always prioritize the safety and happiness of every citizen and do our utmost to achieve sustainable development and make Busan a better place to live."

In preparation for the Chuseok holiday, the city has established countermeasures in seven key areas: economy, safety, transportation, health, welfare, daily life, and tourism. During the holiday period, comprehensive situation rooms will be operated at the city hall and at each district and county office.
