Dongjak-gu Launches 400-Member Human Rights Monitoring Team

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 12th the launch of the "Human Rights Monitoring Group," where residents directly monitor the human rights situation in the local community and develop policies.

The Human Rights Monitoring Group was initiated to actively respond to human rights issues in the district through collaboration between the public and private sectors, aiming to prevent human rights violations that frequently occur in daily life and to respond promptly when violations occur.

On the 11th, the district held an inauguration ceremony at the Dongjak-gu Office auditorium, attended by Mayor Park Il-ha and about 400 members of the Human Rights Monitoring Group, officially starting their activities. The group is composed of a leader, representatives, local activists, private experts, and human rights task departments.

Since last month, the district recruited members interested in promoting human rights, and among them, 30 representatives were selected based on recommendations from human rights-related departments such as the Early Childhood Care Division and the Disability Welfare Division, who possess relevant human rights knowledge.

The representatives will conduct human rights monitoring in daily life, report any notable issues to the relevant departments, evaluate the activities of the Human Rights Monitoring Group, and participate in various human rights-related experiential activities.

Additionally, five private experts will perform review and advisory functions on the monitoring results, and the human rights task departments will seek to develop human rights policies and ensure smooth implementation of projects, thereby promoting more robust operations.

The district plans to hold an evaluation and discussion meeting on the human rights monitoring activities in December this year, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange opinions and present suggestions, thereby enhancing the completeness of the project.

Mayor Park Il-ha stated, "Through the operation of the Human Rights Monitoring Group, we will proactively prevent human rights violations and take the lead in spreading a culture of respect for human rights," adding, "We will implement various policies to protect the human rights and promote the welfare of all residents."
