Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will conduct an 'Electric Vehicle Fire Risk Response Training' on September 20 to strengthen initial response measures in case of electric vehicle fires.

To alleviate residents' concerns following a series of electric vehicle fire incidents, the district held an 'Emergency Apartment Complex Meeting on Electric Vehicle Fires' last August for apartment resident representatives and management office heads. This training expands the target audience to include apartment safety managers, building representatives, and interested residents to enhance practical response capabilities for residents' safety.

The training will be held twice on the 20th at 2 PM and 4 PM in the district office auditorium (2nd floor) and the new building parking lot.

The content focuses on initial response methods that residents can perform themselves before the fire department arrives in case of an electric vehicle fire. It includes demonstrations of manual sprinkler operation using models and practical exercises such as heat suppression using fire hydrants.

Additionally, a fire scenario using an actual vehicle will be staged along with a demonstration on how to use a smothering fire extinguisher. This is to realistically inform residents about the most frequently asked question during the 'Emergency Apartment Complex Meeting on Electric Vehicle Fires' held on August 22: 'At what point and how to use a smothering fire extinguisher during an electric vehicle fire.'

A district official stated, “This training was designed based on residents’ feedback from the previous briefing to provide content that is genuinely helpful. We expect the training to alleviate residents’ concerns and serve as an opportunity to strengthen initial response capabilities in case of electric vehicle fires.”

The district has completed the ordinance enactment and plans to support smothering fire extinguishers in apartments with electric vehicle charging facilities by next month. It is also installing smothering fire extinguishers and fire extinguishers in eight underground parking lots of district-owned buildings equipped with electric vehicle chargers. The plan is to complete installation in the remaining 26 facilities managed by various departments through prompt budget allocation.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “In the case of electric vehicle fires, rapid initial response before the fire department arrives is currently the most important.” He added, “We hope residents will enhance their response capabilities through this training to minimize damage in the event of a fire.”
