Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will invest approximately 4.4 billion KRW in its budget to provide free influenza (flu) vaccinations starting from September 20 for target groups including children, pregnant women, and the elderly to protect the health of its residents.
The free influenza vaccination targets supported by the national program include ▲elderly aged 65 and over ▲children from 6 months old up to 13 years old ▲pregnant women (throughout the entire pregnancy period).
In addition, the district supports free vaccinations for medically vulnerable groups among Songpa-gu residents aged 14 to 64, including ▲severely disabled persons (disability grades 1 to 3) ▲national merit recipients (themselves) ▲medical aid recipients under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act. However, the vaccination schedule varies by target group. Considering antibody production and duration after vaccination as well as the influenza epidemic period (usually from November to April of the following year), the vaccination schedule is divided by age and number of doses.
First, elderly aged 75 and over can receive vaccinations starting October 11, those aged 70 and over from October 15, and those aged 65 and over from October 18. Nationally supported vaccinations will continue at designated medical institutions until April 30, 2025.
For children aged 6 months to 13 years who require two doses, vaccinations can be administered twice at intervals of at least 4 weeks starting September 20, while those requiring only one dose can receive vaccination from October 2. Pregnant women can receive vaccinations at designated medical institutions from October 2 until April 30, 2025, regardless of their pregnancy stage.
Also, medically vulnerable residents of Songpa-gu aged 14 to 64 can receive vaccinations at designated medical institutions from October 2 to November 29 after prior inquiry.
Designated medical institutions for free influenza vaccinations can be checked through the Vaccination Helper website or the Songpa-gu Public Health Center homepage. Information is also available at the community service centers of the addresses where vaccination notices have been distributed.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Preemptive vaccination of vulnerable groups is very important to prepare for the flu season in winter when immunity decreases,” and added, “We ask for active interest so that those eligible for free flu vaccinations receive them within the designated period and maintain a healthy daily life.”
