US Names Lt. Gen. Brunson as New Commander of ROK-US Combined Forces Command

Ahead of the U.S. presidential election this November, the commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, which oversees U.S. Forces Korea, will be replaced.


On the 11th (local time), the U.S. Department of Defense announced that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has nominated Lieutenant General Xavier T. Brunson (photo) as the commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command. Secretary Austin also recommended Brunson's promotion to General.


The Combined Forces Command commander concurrently serves as the commander of U.S. Forces Korea and the United Nations Command. Senate confirmation is required for the Combined Forces Command commander.
