After Visiting Only Thailand, "I'm Pregnant"... Police Catch 30-Year-Old Woman's 'Suspicious Underwear'

120g of Drugs Circulated Domestically

A woman in her 30s who put methamphetamine in her underwear and pretended to be pregnant to pass through the airport without inspection was sentenced to prison.

On the 11th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Court (Chief Judge An Bok-yeol) announced that defendant A (37), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act, was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison and fined 6.42 million won.

The court explained the sentencing by stating, "Crimes related to narcotics not only devastate an individual's body and mind but also have significant negative impacts and harms on society," and added, "Without the defendant's role, it would have been difficult to smuggle methamphetamine into the country."

A was prosecuted on charges of conspiring with two accomplices three times from December 2022 to March of last year to purchase a total of 250g of methamphetamine in Thailand and secretly bring it into South Korea.

According to the investigation, A hid methamphetamine in her underwear or earphone cases and evaded X-ray and security checks by pretending to be in the early stages of pregnancy during immigration procedures.

Of the 250g of methamphetamine smuggled by A and others, 120g were confirmed to have been distributed domestically. The remaining 130g were stored by A in the fire safety equipment of an apartment and were discovered during the investigation after an accomplice was arrested.

A was also charged with aiding the crime by preparing international mail containing ramen soup packets with methamphetamine and handing them over to an accomplice. However, the court accepted the defense's claim that A was unaware that the mail contained methamphetamine and acquitted her of this charge.
