Incheon Records Highest September Temperature in 121 Years... Rain Tomorrow to Ease the Heat

Rain Across the Country on the 12th with Temperature Drop
Feels-Like Temperature and Tropical Nights Still High

On the 11th, ahead of the Chuseok holiday, record-breaking heat continued throughout September, but on the 12th, rain is expected nationwide, bringing some relief from the heat. However, the summer heat will not be completely over, as the perceived temperature remains high and tropical nights persist.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the late-season heatwave peaked on this day. The temperature in Seoul soared to 34.6 degrees Celsius, marking the second highest temperature ever recorded in September. The highest September temperature in Seoul was 35.1 degrees Celsius on September 2, 1939, making this day the hottest in 85 years.

Incheon recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, breaking the September highest temperature record and becoming the hottest September day in 121 years. Incheon is one of the first places in Korea where modern meteorological observations began, starting in August 1904.

Additionally, new September temperature records were set in various regions: ▲Suwon, Gyeonggi 33.9°C ▲Paju 34.5°C ▲Icheon 34.5°C ▲Cheorwon, Gangwon 33.9°C ▲Chuncheon 34.7°C ▲Yeongwol 35.0°C ▲Gunsan, Jeonbuk 34.4°C ▲Buan 35.5°C ▲Jeongeup 36.1°C.

On the 11th, rain fell in Jeju and the southern coast due to southeasterly winds, with scattered showers in various areas. On the 12th, the southeasterly winds will mainly shift toward the central region, and a pressure trough over the West Sea will slowly move northward, bringing rain nationwide.

As a result, temperatures will drop somewhat. The morning low on the 12th is expected to be between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius. These temperatures are higher than the average for this time of year but lower than those on the 11th (morning lows 21?27°C, highs 28?36°C).

However, the heat will not completely subside. As of 5 p.m. on the 11th, some heatwave warnings were eased or lifted, but heatwave warnings remain in 20 areas and heatwave advisories in 127 areas. Especially in the southern regions and Jeju, the highest perceived temperature is expected to stay around 33 degrees Celsius for the time being, and on the 13th, parts of Chungcheong and the Seoul metropolitan area are also expected to experience similar perceived temperatures. Tropical nights are also expected to continue at night, mainly in urban areas, west of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, and along the southern coast.

Rain on the 12th will continue until the afternoon in most areas. However, in Seoul, Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, and southwestern Gangwon, rain is forecast to continue until late afternoon on the 13th, and in northern Gyeonggi and the rest of Gangwon, rain will persist until the night of the 13th. In Chungcheong and the southern regions, there will be many periods of reduced rainfall on the 12th.
