Joint Campaign with Participating Organizations in Life-Respect Safe Village
Gijang County in Busan is conducting a "Suicide Prevention Day Commemorative Campaign" in all towns and villages in the region until the 20th.
On the 10th, in observance of Suicide Prevention Day, the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center and the Busan Environmental Corporation Jeonggwan Branch are conducting a joint campaign.
"World Suicide Prevention Day" is designated every year on September 10th by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) to raise awareness about the value of life and the seriousness of suicide issues, and to promote countermeasures.
In commemoration of this year's "Suicide Prevention Day," the county is holding a large-scale campaign from the 10th to the 20th to improve awareness of suicide prevention and foster a culture of respect for life.
This campaign includes the following: introduction to Suicide Prevention Day, how to help when warning signs are detected, information on the suicide prevention hotline 109, information on the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center, promotion of the Gijang Life Respect Safe Village with residents, and activities for the Life Respect Pledge. The "Life Respect Safe Village" network organizations are participating together.
In particular, on the 10th, the day of "Suicide Prevention Day," a joint campaign was held in the area of Jagwangcheon in Jeonggwan, with the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center and the Jeonggwan Office of the Busan Environmental Corporation, a participating organization of the "Gijang Life Respect Safe Village with Residents."
A total of 20 officials from the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center and the Jeonggwan Office of the Busan Environmental Corporation participated in the campaign, spreading messages about suicide prevention and the importance of life, while also promoting the significance of resource circulation.
County Mayor Jeong Jongbok said, "We will do our best to create a safe Gijang County by spreading a culture of respect for life through active cooperation between institutions."
The "Life Respect Safe Village" is a project that actively utilizes local community resources and networks at the town and village level to reduce suicides and provide high-quality suicide prevention services for local residents.
Starting this year, Gijang County and the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center have signed agreements with 39 organizations and are actively pursuing various projects to establish a comprehensive life safety net in accordance with the 5th Suicide Prevention Basic Plan implementation tasks.
