Executive Ordinance Maintenance Insufficiently Addressed
Focus on Effectiveness of Child Welfare Policy
On the 11th, Kim Su-young, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced that the "Ordinance on the Composition and Operation of the Child Welfare Deliberation Committee in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," partially amended and proposed at the 325th extraordinary session, has passed the relevant standing committee.
This amendment revises the ordinance to allow the existing Child Welfare Deliberation Committee to perform the functions of the local Child Poverty Prevention Committee as specified in Article 10 of the "Act on the Prevention and Support of Child Poverty" (abbreviated as the Child Poverty Prevention Act).
Assemblyman Kim emphasized, "Although the Child Poverty Act was enacted in 2011 and implemented from July 2012, the formation of the committee is essential. However, for over 12 years, the Seo-gu Office neglected to revise its ordinance. In line with the government's policy to reorganize committees, instead of establishing a new committee, we amended the existing Child Welfare Deliberation Committee ordinance to promote efficient operation of the committee."
He continued, "This ordinance amendment is an important first step toward more effectively addressing child poverty issues," adding, "It will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of child welfare policies and strengthening the child protection system."
