Opposition Urges Communication with Groups Distributing Anti-North Korea Leaflets
Kim Young-ho, Minister of Unification, expressed the position that North Korea should be held legally responsible for the damage caused by the filth balloons sent by North Korea.
On the 11th, at the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee plenary session, in response to Kim Ki-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, saying, "It is the government's responsibility to claim compensation from the North Korean regime for the damage caused by the trash balloons," Minister Kim said, "I think North Korea should be held responsible for that issue."
Minister Kim also responded to the criticism, "Shouldn't the government exercise the right of recourse against North Korea even if it compensates the private sector's damages first?" by saying, "Such legal measures are necessary."
He further explained regarding compensation for private sector damages, "We will consult with related ministries such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to ensure the issue is resolved smoothly," and added, "We will explore various measures."
Also, when opposition lawmakers requested communication with the organizations distributing leaflets to North Korea, he said, "We have communicated by phone and confirmed that private organizations are under police investigation for alleged violations of the Aviation Safety Act."
