Game Industry Documentary Trilogy Part 1
Official Selection in the Documentary Section at Busan International Film Festival
Nexon Foundation announced on the 11th that the game industry documentary "SAVE THE GAME," planned and produced together with Side Mirror, has been officially selected for the Wide Angle section of the 29th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from the 2nd to the 11th of next month.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of online games, Nexon Foundation has been producing a three-part documentary series since September 2021 that highlights the growth and culture of the domestic game industry. The first part, SAVE THE GAME, was submitted to the film festival. The Wide Angle section is a category that broadens the perspective of films to showcase unique and differentiated documentaries.
SAVE THE GAME is a work that meticulously and vividly records the history of Korean PC games from the era when personal computers became widespread in the 1980s to the present. It sheds light on the history of the domestic game industry through testimonies and archival materials from first-generation game industry workers.
Kim Jung-wook, Chairman of Nexon Foundation, said, "We have focused on the lack of high-quality content that highlights the historical and cultural value of games despite the remarkable growth of the domestic game industry, and have been producing this documentary." He added, "We hope that through the Busan International Film Festival, the development of the Korean game industry and the efforts of the first-generation game industry workers who cultivated the industry will be reappraised."
Nexon Foundation plans to release the second and third parts of the game industry documentary within this year. The second part will cover the birth and growth of the online game industry, and the third part will deal with the unique gaming culture of Korean users. The documentary project is directed by Park Yoon-jin of Side Mirror, who produced the film "My Sister Jeon Ji-hyun and I."
