Resource Industry Innovation Technology and Idea Competition
Department of Resource Engineering Team Wins Grand Prize, Jang Minkyoung Receives Excellence Award
The student team from Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) won the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the "2024 5th Mine-Tech Festa" hosted by the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation.
At this competition, the team consisting of Choi Sanha (1st year master's program), Yang Hojun (3rd year undergraduate), and Kim Yeonjae (1st year doctoral program) from the Department of Energy Resources Engineering at Pukyong National University received the Grand Prize (President's Award of the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation), while Jang Minkyoung (3rd year undergraduate) received the Excellence Award (President's Award of the Korean Society of Geophysics and Exploration), with prize money of 3 million won and 1 million won, respectively.
Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, the Mine-Tech Festa is an event planned by the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation to provide a platform for future talents in the resource industry to showcase their capabilities.
This year's event, under the themes of innovative technologies and ideas related to all areas of the resource industry?such as smart mining, securing critical minerals, carbon neutrality, mine reclamation, and resource circulation?saw a record participation of 32 teams from 14 universities.
The team led by Choi Sanha, which won the Grand Prize, gave a presentation on "Development of a Router Drop-Based Robot Remote Control System for Underground Mines Without Communication Networks" (supervising professor Choi Yosoon), receiving the highest evaluation among all participating teams.
Jang Minkyoung, who received the Excellence Award, was recognized for her work titled "Innovation in Mining Operations Realized Through Waveform Analysis: Automation and Accuracy Improvement of KPI Assessment" (supervising professor Choi Yosoon).
Pukyong National University was also recognized for its outstanding educational and research achievements in the field of energy resources, having swept the Grand Prize, Best Award, and Excellence Award at last year's competition as well, winning the Grand Prize for two consecutive years.
