Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province held a ritual on the summit of Guksabong in Jipum-myeon on the 10th to pray for a bountiful harvest of wild pine mushrooms, a local specialty alongside Yeongdeok Snow Crab, and for the safety of producers.
Kim Kwangyeol, the governor of Yeongdeok County, is praying for a bountiful pine mushroom harvest at the summit of Guksabong.
The ritual was attended by Yeongdeok County, the Yeongdeok County Forestry Cooperative, Yeongdeok National Forest Management Office, Yeongdeok County Youth Confucian Association, Yeongdeok Pine Mushroom Producers’ Association, and Yeongdeok County Forestry Successors’ Association. The area around Guksabong (511m), where the event took place, has long been renowned as a famous mountain for abundant pine mushrooms.
According to statistics from the Korea Forestry Cooperative Federation, Yeongdeok County has ranked first in the nation for pine mushroom production for 12 consecutive years, establishing itself as the top production area. Since 2017, the county has increased its recognition and brand value through the Pine Mushroom Festival.
This year, the Yeongdeok Premium Pine Mushroom Festival will be held from the 21st of this month to the 19th of next month at Yeongdeok County Sports Complex and Yeonghae Rest Area. It is expected that visitors will be able to purchase high-quality wild pine mushrooms certified by Yeongdeok County at the most affordable prices.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol said, "To live up to our reputation as the nation's best wild pine mushroom production area, we will hold marketing events at Seoul City Hall and the main branch of Lotte Department Store at the end of September and actively promote Yeongdeok Premium Pine Mushrooms through various media. By enhancing the brand value of Yeongdeok Premium Pine Mushrooms, we will do our utmost to ensure it becomes an icon driving the local economy alongside Yeongdeok Snow Crab."
