The 'Math Genius' Who Solved It Alone When Everyone Gave Up... AI That Answers After 10-20 Seconds of Thinking Emerges

"OpenAI to Release Inference-Enhanced Model 'Strawberry' Within 2 Weeks"
"Solves Math Problems Abandoned by Other AI Models"
"Does Not Answer Immediately, 'Thinks' for About 10 Seconds"

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is set to release an artificial intelligence (AI) model focused on enhancing reasoning capabilities called 'Strawberry' within two weeks, according to IT media The Information on the 10th (local time).

A source who tested Strawberry said the model will be launched as part of ChatGPT but will operate as a standalone service. The Information suggested that Strawberry could be offered as one of several AI model options users can select and run within the ChatGPT platform.

Strawberry is known as the codename for a secret project OpenAI is developing with a focus on improving AI's reasoning abilities. The goal is for the AI not only to generate answers to questions but also to autonomously browse the internet.

The source explained that Strawberry differs from other chatbot AIs in that it does not respond immediately to questions but 'thinks' for 10 to 20 seconds before answering. The Information speculated, "With this reasoning ability, Strawberry can solve math problems that previous AI models could not," but also noted, "Since it is still an early version, it may not be 'multimodal' as it only accepts and generates text, not images."

OpenAI is also reportedly developing 'Orion,' the next-generation flagship large language model (LLM) to succeed GPT-4, alongside Strawberry. This model is designed to handle multimodal inputs such as text, images, and videos, surpassing previous models in language understanding and generation. The release date has not yet been announced.

ChatGPT, which shocked the world upon its debut in 2022, currently maintains industry leadership with over 200 million weekly active users (WAU). This figure has doubled in nine months since surpassing 100 million in November last year. The number of enterprise service customers recently exceeded one million.

OpenAI, which partnered with Microsoft (MS) in 2019 and received a $13 billion investment, has recently continued to raise large-scale funding. Earlier this month, reports emerged that Nvidia is discussing investing about $100 million in OpenAI. The venture capital firm Strive Capital, leading this funding, is said to have valued OpenAI at over $100 billion (approximately 133.9 trillion KRW).
